We Are in This Together

Paul Kinney, NRTA Executive Director

April 2020

It’s been a rough couple of weeks. The stock market has tanked, a recession looks likely, and the world is in the midst of a pandemic. I am mindful that many philosophers have observed that every crisis has a silver lining.  With that in mind, I want to encourage you to not only survive the current crisis but to use it to better your life and increase your chances for future success.

Sales will be lower all around during this economic downturn, but how you conduct business today will help you over the next year, the next five years, and beyond. This is a good time to build trust.

That belief is our overriding attitude for the NRTA membership relationship.  We are keenly aware that as many of our members have seen their brick and mortar locations close, they have reestablished themselves as viable working elements within their homes and apartments. Still others have been laid off or furloughed.  As difficult as their circumstances may be, they are still contributing and protecting their company’s portfolio investments.

And, as much as ever, many are utilizing our website and online presence to not only stay current but expand their reach as they keep their fingers on the pulse of the multitude of challenges commercial tenants are bearing.

NRTA is your online gateway

The NRTA is right beside you. We have initiated expanded communication web blogs and up-to-date thinking and best practice discussions. Our homepage In the News blogs and Professional Library is constantly updated with relevant material. Our social media and blog post updates address the latest commentary. We monitor a wide range of issues including the COVID-19 Stimulus Law, Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, and Business Disruption in a Pandemic, to name a few.  We are in constant communication with our company sponsors, affiliate companies, and top leadership to link you to the latest thinking and options that may help your team adjust its crisis response platform.

Membership upgrade

You asked. We listened. Recorded webinars are now available as a member resource. As a member in good standing, you have immediate access to this new feature by simply logging in to our website and visiting the Professional Library. New recordings are added periodically. Best of all, there are no limited time replay constraints–they’re available on-demand as long as you’re an active member.

If you know people who aren’t members but would benefit from this resource, then we encourage you to spread the word about the benefits of joining to gain unlimited access to all our educational resources and our community of experts who are paving the way in commercial real estate lease management. Recent webinar recordings include,

  • NNN Auditing for Beginners
  • Where to Find Money in Overhead Expenses
  • Facing the Challenges of Lease Administration

Additional webinars will be added to this resource on an ongoing basis.

The spirit of the NRTA is a function of its collective commitment to success. Successful organizations are places where people want to participate—to make a difference.

Our leadership, sponsors, and our affiliate and regular member companies are helping and guiding us through this challenge. Even during this time of anxiety, many of our NRTA family–some of whom have been personally affected by the coronavirus or have high-risk loved ones–have reached out to support us. Many of our sponsors have renewed their 2020 support packages. Visit their profiles on our website. We are indebted to their continued loyalty.

Legal Corner returns in this issue

Thanks to Cristina Addy, Esq. of Goulston & Storrs, creator of our new Legal Corner. This section of the newsletter has been a great favorite and reference point for many of you. I want to personally thank Cristina.

I also want to thank Andy Jacobson for serving as our long-time Legal Corner contributor and editor.

I am always taken aback by the incredible and selfless people who make up our NRTA family.
